TECHNICAL TRAINING

SWRP developed the Riparian and Aquatic Ecosystem Monitoring: A Technical Training Workshop, which partners scientists, SWRP staff, and local teachers.  During this intensive summer training workshop, teachers work alongside cooperating scientists and staff to acquire the skills and practice needed to use, and teach the use of, data collection equipment and techniques.  These teachers then integrate the Student Watershed Research Project into their classroom curriculum. Procedures and criteria for high quality watershed data collection were developed through the collaboration of scientists working in the Tualatin and Clackamas Watersheds.  Those procedures were published in the Riparian and Aquatic Ecosystem Monitoring: A Manual of Field and Lab Procedures, 4th Edition (2003), produced by the SWRP staff to assist instruction, data collection, and reporting of results.
(This workshop also covers program design for individuals or groups interested in developing a volunteer monitoring program.)
